    Lamest blackout /evar/
Early evening, sitting at my desk, sipping vodka from a mug and eating a chicken sandwich. Cut. Wake up next morning in bed to alarm clock. Mug's empty, sandwich half eaten, phone (secondary alarm, usually on my nightstand) still in the charger. Feel fine.

Seriously, I'm pretty sure that has to be the least exciting story I've ever heard.

    More of a Plan
All right, trying to get things a little more boiled down. Since folk seem to be interested, I think that I'll be shooting for a weekend including some of the lasers either the weekend of July 28th or August 4th, whichever is good for more people. I'll see about sending off some more individual messages and firming up a timeline this weekend. Feel free to pop a message right here.

So... At the moment I've realized that my birthday is coming up pretty soon (July 30th) and I dunno what/when/if I'm going to be doing anything for it. May just end up grilling and going to laser tag or something, but any interested party should probably drop me a line.

    Lessons

Sensitive? Or a stalker? Most people opt for the latter, apparently.

I learned something today. In the real world, if you show up at an event as press without prior notification or even paying the admission and then try to set up a studio in a busy hallway, security may ask you to leave. However, as difficult as it was, I managed to avoid those pitfalls and my personal experience instead included getting to hang around behind the stage and hear a jpop band (Pine*am) play a few songs for their sound test.

T'was nice, since everyone cancelled on me for the lasers, stopped by Tora-Con to check it out and grab some lunch and ended up doing the above. Also ran into a few people that I knew there. Didn't get to see all too much else at the con, but ate some tasty pizza and pocky. Also finally picked up SH3, may give that a whirl soonish.

Also, some miscellaneous negative things happened recently. Right now, though, I've got some cleaning and schoolwork I want to get done.

    Pi Birthday Pie

    Readying my weapon of choice...

Past weekend was a combo birthday party for Carrie and Chris, as y'all probably know. Laser tag was fun, we managed to get all 16 folk fit at a Hibachi table, which was mighty tasty. The food, that is, as I didn't taste the table itself. The suprise arrival of Adam and Laurean, who braved the drive from mighty Ohio, was most excellent. I didn't get to see the visiting folk on Sunday, but since I didn't get back in until afer 4am I needed to sleep anyways.

Oh, and I should mention that Chris was decent enough to treat a bunch of us to dinner at BWW for his birthday. Which was awesome, just like him. Those new sauces, Asian Zing and Parm Garlic, are fantastic. Honestly, if someone gives me an excuse to head on over there (with them or not ;) ) I'll do so at the drop of a hat - and the free food with friends is a win in my book.

Now... Well, I'm typing this to get a quick break from a software project (which I need). I don't think I'm going to make the deadline, which means a 10% reduction to my grade. Not thrilled about that, but we'll see if I beat the clock. I also have a quiz tomorrow and a philosophy assignment due by midnight. And that's about all I'm focusing on at the moment. I'm sure I'll be looking to chill a little after that's behind me, though. Don't suppose anyone wants to head over to BWW? :)

I strike under the cut... )

    The lasers!
Hm, haven't updated in a little while.

The laser tag lock-in was pretty fun. We got a group of 10 people, which is fairly good considering the proximity to end of quarter/finals and the fact that not everyone who plays wants to be locked in for 6 hours with the lasers. Still, it is my secret goal to get a group large enough that the Chili's hostess actually cries when we ask her to seat us. I guess we'll have to see about nudging more folk into going, especially since no one who's gone has expressed any disappointment.

It looks like I'll be up in Rochester for the break, which'll probably be as exciting as it sounds. My dad will be visiting for a day or two, and I guess I'll see how that goes...

And now I've just randomly poked everyone on my facebook friends list because I'm curious to see what'll happen.

    Just what I needed.
Hm. I'm not sure that typing this out while not still entirely sober will make this entry more honest, less coherent or some sort of combination of the both. Actually, what I think it will make this entry is terse, which is more or less fine with me.

Well, anyways, got a call last night (tonight-ish). It was short, but to the point. Apparently my folks are splitting up. In the first follow-up call (of which I'm sure there will be a couple), my brother advised me to get drunk. Luckily, I was in touch with some friends that had both vodka and a rented copy of Alladin. That actually sums up most of my night.

Except for that when I'm driving home I get pulled over by a cop. Now, I'm pretty sure I was within the legal limit by that point, but being the first time I've been pulled over, I have to admit to being a little nervous. Given that it was one of four cop cars, I wasn't quite sure what to think. As the cop got my address and liscence information, I asked him, "Is this about the loud party down the hall?"

He answered, "No, this is about the three people that got stabbed."

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to finish the drink in my hand and sleep for as long as I can.

Well, got back from the office Xmas party just a little while ago. Figured I might as well take a fun shot or two so long as I had my suit on, so:

All in all it was pretty nice. Certainly can't complain about going to a vineyard and getting a dinner on the company dime. Particularly if that dinner is filet mignon and the meal includes an open wine bar. Other than that, I got to chat with coworkers and snag a little present.

So now I'm here, up in Rochester until the 22nd. I imagine that I won't be doing all that much besides working, doing some course work, and a healthy dose of nothing. Ah well, I suppose there's a reason many folk are out of town for this break.

    Start of the Quarter
Yesterday my car died outside of Mediaplay. Wouldn't start, tried jumping it and put in a new battery from Advance for around $50. Still nothing. I did snag rides back to my apartmentment and then out to my first class today from assorted awesome people. After my first class I walked over to Mediaplay from the far side of campus, and when I got to my car I grabbed my umbrella and called AAA. Apparently tow trucks were busy, but one got there after a couple of hours. Towed me over to Goodyear, where they took a look at the car. A couple of hours after that I forked over $400 and drove away. I missed my second class of the day, but got back to campus in time to catch my third.

Also, apparently the Prob and Stat book costs $130. Which means buying it used. Except for the first quiz is on Thursday. Which means... I guess looking at the example quizzes on the website a bunch? I probably should also start poking around with the datacomm stuff I'm going to be doing, since the adjunct teacher doesn't seem at that great. Well, maybe I should be doing some of that right now, but I'm not quite in the mood.

    Thankfully Over
In the matter of the very immediate: I was a bit ill last night, so I couldn't get to sleep until somewheres about 4:00 AM. I think it was just something I ate, but it still has me a little off. Thankfully, it's just the sleep disruption which I'll try to take care of by turning in a little early tonight.

Anyways, saw the latest Harry Potter movie. I've still only read a portion of the book, but I certainly think that the movie was well done. The material that they cut still allowed them to tell the main story in a standalone manner that made sense and retained the essential qualities of the series. Beyond that, it was a good movie. What would have been better is if the woman behind me could contain her plodding internal monologue and not spray me with ejaculatory shouts, but such is life.

Finals? They are over, done, grades in. I would have liked to do a bit better in a couple of my courses, but no turning back the clock now. Still need to work on my philosophy paper, so I guess the quarter won't truly be ending for me for a little while. By and large, though, good to have it over.

This Wednesday night I'm apparently going to be heading down to Amsterdam, New York with Phaser for some sort of Thanksgiving. I asked him if there was anything in particular planned, at which point he became enraged, reminded me of his hatred for planning, and proceeded to hit me several times. I'm sure something will be worked out, though.

Eh, maybe they'll lock me in a cupboard and I'll work on my philosophy reading by flashlight.

    Eh.
Well, finals week is progressing. I met with my philosophy professor and got an incomplete for his class, as I don't think I could have finished my final paper in time. I explained my circumstances and he was understanding, which is very cool. He knows that my interest in the class was genuine, and said that he wanted to read some of the points I had to make in my paper, so... Well, that's something to work on over break.

As for the rest, I'm done with my calculus final. I hope it went reasonably well, though all I really want to see is a final grade of at least C for the class. Tomorrow I'm going to be tackling my PLC and history finals. History I'm going into with an average of about 94%, which is good, since an A there will help to boost my GPA. The PLC final will probably decide between B/C in the class for me, and I'm certainly going to shoot for B.

And, of course, I've had to fight off attempts by someone to sabotage me by forcing me to read the Harry Potter books. A fiendish plot, to be sure, but I'm determined not to let it defeat me. That being said, I'm on book 4 and depending on how exactly much free time I have on Thursday (for which I have no plans) that might be finished thenish.

Other than that I've been alternating between studying and breaks to play counterstrike, which I've been getting back into a little. To that end I picked a server and set it on my favorites to build some stats. What happens? A little while ago I get kickbanned without a warning. Apparently there's something offensive about keeping a 2:1 ratio with p90 spray? Honestly, I wasn't even doing anything all that impressive.

    Anyways, back to the studying.

    Long Days
Fun schedule today, pretty standard for monday and wednesdays. Got up at about 6:40, grabbed a glass of water and a mint and hit the shower. Drove to work, where I did a couple of things for different projects and went to a meeting. I left a little after 1:00, stopped by crossroads for a salad, then headed over to my classes, which run from 2:00-8:00. Afterward I stopped for a sub and read a book for class for about an hour (Nozak's Anarchy, State, and Utopia).

Now I /should/ be doing more studying. I have a math test tomorrow (along with some homework, but that's mostly finished) and a programming lab due on Monday. I'm on schedule on the reading I need to keep up with for the philosophy paper I'll be writing, but I'm certainly behind on the reading for my first history exam. I think that exam is next Wednesday, but I'm not 100% on that.

However... I'm feeling fried, so I don't know if I'm going to get much else done tonight. There's a chance that I'll finish my math homework, look over some code examples, and read a little bit in my history book. Then maybe play some WoW for a half hour and have something to drink, then hit the sack. There's a much greater chance that I'm going to skip that second sentence and just fuzz out and sleep early. After all, I'll be getting up at 6:40 tomorrow for the start of another day.

That's it for now. I would write a little more, but my eyes aren't focusing.

Update: Heh, being too tired to sleep doesn't make sense, but apparently that doesn't stop it from happening.

    Lies
Well, my internet is back. I said I was going to do a larger update when that happened, but apparently I was lying. I also signed up for my classes, though I still hope to switch out of one if I can get into a full class. Anyways, I got work coming up, so I suppose that's it for now.

    End of an Era
Just a quick update from my folk's place. The train was sold out, so I'll be arriving in Rochester Monday night instead of tonight. Anyways, the wedding ceremony was lovely, and the reception was very nice. From what I saw, everything went quite well. Which is good, because they certainly deserved nothing less.

I suppose this marks the end of the summer, with the fall up and coming. I still need to get my internet back, I'll see about a longer update when that happens and I get a chance to look over some of the wedding photos.

    Nearly Here
So, it would appear that the day is nearly here. I'm at my folk's place now, having headed down for the wedding. It's funny how things that seem a ways off for so long end up getting so close so quick. I'm sure I'll be sure to have an update on that particular event.

However, just now I've finished checking SIS for the moment and decided that I really hate restricted courses. I'm only up for 2 of the 4 courses I want to take for the fall, and both of the ones that I want that would fit into my schedule were thwarted by such. In fact, one of them filled up. It's a philosophy course, but not one of the teachers that I know. I figure I'll just show up to that class with an add/drop form and approach the professor afterwards. Simply paying attention in class and letting a professor know that you're interested in the course material has worked pretty much every time for me before. The other class is an online class, and I really hope that I can get in before it closes or I'll need to do some late hunting.

Eh, maybe it's not the worst thing, but trying to fit a class schedule that gets me the classes I need and still lines up for work is annoying enough without this nonsense. And I don't really want to have to take the time off from work to pop over to campus and try to hunt down professors beforehand or talk about bypassing whatever nonsense restrictions that have decided that I can't yet register for an online history class I need to fill my course worksheet.

    A Quick Word
As a bonus bit of fun, my cable modem isn't working. Therefore, no internet until I can wrangle a visit from Time Warner. I would hope that that happens by this weekend (as work probably prevents most times that they'd send someone over). So if you don't see me online, that's why. I still check my gmail account, so that's still a good way to contact me.

Little get together up at Nick's place this weekend on my actual birthday. And there we go. That's another year down. Also saw Dark City twice this weekend as well, which I can't complain about.

So... I hear there's some sort of wedding coming up. Certainly looking forward to that. Need to do some things real soon like get a hotel room, and also make sure I'm all set up and squared away for fall classes at RIT.

    Back In Town
Went down to Jersey last weekend. Fine enough gathering, with some swimming and grilling and a very tasty resteraunt dinner. Train ride down was long and delayed, but it was definately good to get together with friends and see my folk's place as well as the doggy.

Back to Rochester now, life continuing. AC got replaced for good today, working fine. And I'm not sure just what they did, but I think that I now have more hot water. So... that's certainly something positive.

Looking forward to this weekend. Little get together at Phaser's with some additional grilling and little party games and the like. Should be good.

    Feel the OHMYGODIMONFIRE
So... My air conditioner apparently decided to give out. As I write this, I sit in my apartment with the temperature at 88 degrees. I've got one light only on dim so as to generate less heat, and the bedroom door closed in the hope that particular room will get down to the crisp low 80s so I can try to get to sleep. That's just wonderful. Exactly what I needed. Figure I'll stop by the apartment office tomorrow morning and put in some sort of work request.

Also looking past the weekend of the 23rd to the weekend of the 30th, the date of a little birthday get together at Nick's house. Probably need to begin simultaneous poking of folk to get some confirmations for both weekends at the same time. I think things are mostly settled, but I need to remind myself to do whatever firming up still needs to be done.
